CLUB LEVEL AWARDS

Swimmer of the year - Tom Blamey Trophy :

Is given to the swimmer who best exemplifies the spirit of the club. Work ethic, attendance at swim meets, friendly and supportive of team members, good sportsmanship and a person who acts as a good role model for others are all qualities taken into consideration.

Most Improved Swimmer- Hoffmann Cup:

It is awarded to - A Junior Most Improved and a Senior Most Improved. This is based on both objective, quantifiable data such as times, but also take into consideration subjective data such as improvements based on skill and technique. The 'Senior' will be time based and candidates will come from State Development ,Senior and High Performance Squads. The 'Junior' will be awarded based purely on times at SV meets over the 12 months, and candidates will come from Pre Squad, Junior/Development squads . The winners will take the Hoffmann Cup home for one week each then return it to the office and they will get a smaller cup to keep. Ultimately, it is up to the coaches to choose.

Relay awards:

For best performance in relay events at National or State Championships

Sprint:

For best performance in sprint events, e.g. highest placing at State Sprint Championships or a swimmer qualifies in 50m Free for National Championships .

Distance:

For best performance in pool events (800 / 1500 Free) as well as Open Water events at highest level of competitions.

Record-Breaker of the Season Award:

Is given at the end of a season to a swimmer who breaks the most club records during the season (both long and short courses).


 

SQUAD LEVEL AWARDS

Encouragement:

Awarded perhaps to someone who tries really hard in training, but whose results may not necessarily reflect the effort they have put in: (Could be for someone struggling with motivation as their results or life circumstances).

Number of awards per squad given:

Pre-Squad – 4 awards

Development Squad – 3 awards

State Squad – 2 awards

National Target Squad – 1 award.

Achievement (one per squad) :

What is a great achievement at one level, may not be higher up. Someone attempting a 400m IM for the first time may be a great achievement. Someone who has been on a huge plateau and finally breaks through with a PB could be a major achievement in determination and perseverance. It could be a huge achievement for someone to finally make State Qualifying times after persevering for a long time. Individual coaches to determine criteria.
